Diesel turbochargers operate by compressing even more air inside the cylinder before the fuel is injected. When air is compressed the oxygen molecules are packed closer together. Increased air means more fuel can be added for the same size naturally aspirated engine. This generates increased mechanical power and efficiency of the combustion process.
