The high-pressure pump is responsible for compressing the fuel supplied by the electric fuel pump to the pressure required for high-pressure injection up to 20 MPa (200 bar).

The high-pressure pump is supplied fuel by the electric pump. This pump generates the fuel pressure required for the high-pressure injector to provide an optimum mixture of fuel and air directly into the combustion chamber. The high-pressure pump is typically located off of the fuel rail.
