What to Check and Test on Your CAT C15 ACERT

Are you looking for some tests you can run to help you determine whether or not it's time to rebuild your engine?

The first thing you can do is run an oil analysis. You'll want to be looking for things like high metal concentrations, foreign contaminants, and unfiltered air entering your system.

You might also want to check for excessive blowby. This can be caused by piston and piston ring wear, and causes high oil consumption. This can also include turbo issues, worn valve guides, and cylinder head issues.

It's also important that you know the age of your engine, and when it was last rebuilt. Sometimes time is one of the biggest factors when it comes to determining when you should rebuild your engine, so make sure you know those important dates.

What Are My C15 ACERT Rebuild Kit Options?

If you're in the market for a new rebuild kit, there are two common options for the C15 ACERT. The difference between them is the compression ratio for what your specific engine is tuned for. It's critical to order the correct rebuild kit for the specification your C15 ACERT was built on.

For example, the higher horsepower 625 uses a lower compression piston. We've seen past situations when operators eliminate the intake valve actuators on their engine. This results in very high cylinder pressures, which can cause a number of problems, including chordal fractures, cracked heads, or failed head gaskets.

It's important to follow OEM specifications when ordering diesel engine parts, to ensure it functions properly inside your engine. Not doing so can cause failure of the component, or other components downstream.
