Symptoms of Failing Duramax Fuel Injectors
If you think your common rail injectors are failing, there's a few symptoms that you can look out for. These include:
- Excessive Smoke
- Power Loss
- Rough Idle
- Fuel in Oil
- High Return Fuel
- No Start
If you're experiencing any of these symptoms, it might be time to replace your fuel injectors. For example, coolant or fuel could enter your oil supply because of a faulty injector. These are not effective lubricants, and can cause problems down the line. Check out our post to learn more about what contaminated oil can do to a turbocharger.
What's Causing Your Duramax Fuel Injectors to Fail?
If your fuel injectors have failed, you probably want to avoid the issue in the future if possible. There are a few things you should be aware of that can help prevent issues with your fuel injectors in the future. These include:
- Diesel Fuel Quality: The quality of the fuel you use can affect the performance of your injectors. Avoid cheap fuel up locations, where the fuel could have been sitting for long periods of time, becoming contaminated. Instead, fill up at locations that move large amounts of fuel.
- Operating Conditions: There are a few operating conditions that can negatively impact your fuel injectors, such as short runs, excessive idling, cool operating, and light engine loadings. These will cause deposit problems in your combustion chamber, exhaust spaces, turbocharger, and DPF filter.
- High Pressure/High Temperature: These can degrade your fuel and leave deposits in pumps and injectors, which lowers the lubricating ability of your fuel.
