What's Causing Your Ford Powerstroke Fuel Injectors to Fail?
So if you've noticed that your injectors could be failing, you're probably wondering what's causing it. Is there something that you can do to prevent it in the future?
There are a few common things that cause issues with Ford Powerstroke diesel engine fuel injectors, as well as some things you can do to help prevent the problems. These include:
- Diesel Fuel Quality: You might not think much about the fuel you put into your engine, but it can have an effect on the performance of your diesel fuel injectors. Poor quality or contaminated fuel can actually lead to some of the issues you might have with your injectors. Try to fill up at locations that move a lot of fuel and avoid places where the fuel might have sat for long periods of time (this could lead to contamination).
- Operating Conditions:The operating conditions of your diesel engine can affect the lifespan of your injectors as well. Some conditions negatively impact your fuel injectors, like short runs, excessive idling, cool operating, and light engine loadings. These can cause deposit problems in your combustion chamber, exhaust spaces, turbocharger, and DPF filter.
- High Pressure/High Temperature: These can degrade your fuel. They can also leave deposits in pumps and injectors, which lowers the lubricating ability of your fuel.
