Replacing the N14 engine model in 1998, the Cummins ISX engine has been used in a wide range of highway trucking applications for over 15 years. It has undergone a number of changes since its release, the most prominent of which was a switch from a two-piece piston to a one-piece design. This one-piece design, which features a narrow window, is now available in rebuild kits from HHP.

For maximum strength and durability, these new pistons are manufactured from forged steel and incorporate unique welded single-piece oil cooling gallery plates for increased life expectancy. Unlike old style wrist pins that only relied on a cooling nozzle, this piston features a wrist pin thats lubricated through a drilled connecting rod and the piston cooling nozzle. This increases oil flow to critical wear areas thus decreasing the need for maintenance over time. If the engine is being upgraded to incorporate a one-piece piston, the connecting rods must be replaced. The old non-drilled rod (Part No. 3681343) and the new drilled rod (Part No. 4059429) are both available for purchase from HHP.

The new cylinder liners included in the ISX Rebuild Kit feature an induction-hardened plateau honed finish and reduced thickness of the top press fit ledge. The new liner (Part No. 2882764) can be used to replace the previous liner (Part No. 4101507) and is available from HHP. It is important to note that these are not interchangeable and the new style liner is included as part of the rebuild kit. The piston ring sets feature steel fire rings and oil control rings for an excellent seal to the cylinder liner as well.
