Through the years, diesel engines have undergone some major changes. Sometimes, the changes happen from model to model, but at other times, updates will be made to existing engines.
Many of these updates help your engine to run better and more efficiently, giving you the most life out of your machine.
We know that you want your engine to run at its best. We’re making sure you’re staying up to date on the changes that can impact your engine, which is why this post is dedicated to the liner o-ring change in the Navistar DT4668 and DT530E.
About the Cylinder Liner O-Ring Change
In late 2004, International Navistar changed how they were configuring the o-ring configuration in their DT466E and DT530E applications.
This basically meant that they moved from the “old” style, where the liner uses both an o-ring and a crevice to a more simple “new” style. This simplified version uses just the crevice seal.
They also introduced an o-ring kit that includes the o-ring and crevice seal. It covers both the old and new designs.
The new cylinder sleeve has a single groove and uses just the large orange crevice seal.

Identifying Old and New O-Ring Liner Style
To ensure you’re using the right components, it’s important to identify what style you have in your engine. We have a few tips to help you out!
About the Old Cylinder Liner O-Ring
It’s fairly simple to identify which cylinder liner style you have in your engine.
In the older style, the cylinder liner has an o-ring and a crevice seal both, with the crevice seal being the upper and the o-ring the lower.
About the New Cylinder Liner O-Ring
Similarly, a visual inspection will help you identify the new liner style as well.
Where on the older style, you’d notice two rings, the new style has only one. This is for the crevice seal.
