Have your fuel injectors failed? Are you experiencing repeat trouble with your injectors?
We know it can be frustrating when the fuel system on your diesel engine isn’t working like it should. But it’s not always the injectors that are to blame. You might be experiencing poor injector seating leading to repeated issues with your fuel system components. But what can be done about it? In this post, we’re going through symptoms of bad injector seating and what you can do to fix it. Are Your Fuel Injectors Poorly Seated? When you have fuel injector problems, it might be caused by bad sealing or seating. This problem is caused when the fuel injector doesn’t sit correctly in the injector bore of the cylinder head. What Can You Do About Poor Seating? It’s common to blame failure on injectors if they fail soon after install. You know how annoying this can be to deal with. That’s where our injector cutting tool comes in. This tool takes some of the guesswork out of figuring out what caused the failure. Using this, you can create a perfect seal, reducing the risk of damaging your injector from improper sealing. What Issues Can Poor Injector Seating Cause? If your injectors aren’t seating well, you might see some of the following symptoms:Fixing the Issue Poorly seated injectors have a lot in common with poorly seating valves. They both, for instance, have an issue with where the injector comes in contact with the seat. If you seat the valve with a bluing compound, it’s possible to see where the valve is making proper contact and where it’s not. You can do the same thing with a fuel injector. How to Correct Fuel Injector Seating Looking for a way to correct your fuel injector seating? One simple thing you can do is use our cutting tool. With both fine and coarse tips, you can get a smooth finish, eliminating any unevenness in the injector seat. Simply turn the tool in the seat—you’ll be able to see places where the tool makes contact. This can determine how much should be ground down for an even fit. Properly grinding down the seat ensures that the fuel injector makes contact where it’s supposed to, allowing the O-ring to create a perfect seal and preventing combustion gases from getting past the tip.
