What Makes The Caterpillar 3512 A Great Engine?

Where is the Caterpillar 3512 Most Frequently Found? We’ve seen that the 3512 has an extremely high rate of usage in the gas compression, land drilling, land production, offshore drilling, and offshore production industries. This increase in usage in these industries can likely be traced back to oil and gas booms in North Dakota and Pennsylvania. What’s Inside a 3512? Your 3512 is a four-stroke, liquid-cooled, turbocharged engine.  It has a displacement of 3518 cubic inches. Its cylinder size is a 6.7″ bore, 7.5″ stroke, and it has a 13.5:1 compression ratio. This means that the 3512 is capable of producing up to 2500 bhp at 1900 RPMs. A 3512 can consume nearly one hundred gallons per hour if it’s running at full load. It’s available in several different configurations, but its standard shipping weight is around seven tons. If you’re wondering how big the engine is, it’s around nine feet long, six feet wide, and seven feet tall. Depending on the variation you order and what purpose you’re using it for, your Caterpillar 3512’s capacities can vary a bit. Generally, the cooling system will hold 43 gallons of coolant and the lubrication system can hold 89 gallons of oil. The oil should be changed every 1000 hours.
