How To Avoid Improper Installation Of VGT Turbochargers

When you spend the time and money to replace a part on your diesel engine, we know you want it to keep your engine running great for miles to come.

But sometimes, you install a component and your engine still fails again.

This can happen when installing a new variable geometry turbocharger, and it’s something people worry about often.

If you’ve decided you need to put a new VGT on your engine but you’re worried it’ll cause an engine failure, we’re here to tell you variable geometry turbos aren’t as scary as they used to be.

We’re going to walk you through what you need to do when you get your new turbo to help prevent issues from improper installation.

Tips for Installing Your VGT Correctly

We’ve found VGTs still tend to make people nervous. They’re complicated parts that sometimes seem like they cause more problems than they solve.

We’re here to help you out, though! When you buy a VGT from Highway & Heavy Parts, we want to make sure you’re getting all the information you need to put it on the right way.

Service Topics Included With Your VGT Purchase

When you get your turbo from HHP, on the front you’ll notice your part number and your serial number. You’ll also have some cautionary items on the box you should pay attention to which will help prevent a failure later on.

One of those cautionary items is a notice to follow the service parts topic as you put on your turbo. Doing this can help keep your turbo from failing due to improper installation.

You’ll also want to make sure you’re using the right oils and make sure you’re cleaning your DPF filter. You’ll see all this information on the outside of the box.

When you open the box, you’ll see those service topics inside, on the bag. They’ll also be on the tag attached to the turbocharger.

It might seem excessive to have these in so many places, but we’re serious about making sure you have the information you need to help prevent a problem. Following the guidelines is one of the best things you can do to help stop a failure further down the road.

A lot of turbos you order aren’t going to have such information on them, and that’s what can lead to problems down the road. Confusion can lead to improper installation, which causes an otherwise preventable failure.

We want to make sure that doesn’t happen to you.
